NYC School – 3D BIM Model, Clash Detection, and Coordination

Brief Overview
The NYC School project involved the development and construction of a school facility managed by the New York City School Construction Authority (SCA). The client, Virtual Building Studio, was tasked with creating a detailed LOD300 Model of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Fighting (MEPF) services for the school. Additionally, they were responsible for performing clash detection and coordination to validate the design.
Challenges/Requirements
LOD300 MEPF Modeling
Clash Detection and Coordination

Deliverables
Virtual Building Studio developed a comprehensive 3D BIM model of the MEPF services, adhering to the LOD300 standard. This model provided detailed information on the systems' spatial requirements, connections, and specifications, facilitating accurate construction planning and execution.
The team at Virtual Building Studio conducted clash detection analysis using the LOD300 model. They identified clashes and coordination issues among different building elements, such as HVAC ducts, electrical conduits, and plumbing pipes. Detailed clash reports were generated, enabling the design team to make necessary adjustments and resolve conflicts.
Outcomes / Benefits
Enhanced Design Validation
Improved Construction Efficiency
Cost Savings
A staggering 355 million women and girls are still waiting for a toilet in India (WaterAid, 2017). Women from low-income communities face the brunt of this gap as they compromise their safety each day to carry out their daily sanitation routine.
